HEIMAT!!!

My good buddy, Stefan Strumbel (Germany) is featured in The New York Times today – “Heimat”!

Additionally, here’s a great story of how Stefan and I came to be accquainted:

While on a ski trip in Vail, Colorado, my mom and step dad were at their favorite ski pub listening to Helmut Fricker, an accordion player they had become very fond of on previous visits.   During the break, Helmut introduced my folks to his nephew, Stefan.  It wasn’t long before mom figured out he was an artist and no longer than that before she made it crystal clear that her son was also a fellow thing maker.  Within minutes of their meeting, I’m talking to Stefan on the phone (after an excitedly chaotic intro from mom).  Since then, Stefan and I have kept in good touch.  He was in the show I curated at Neurotitan (Berlin), we’ve collaborated on and produced a print that is currently available exclusively in Germany, and we have plans to do some other projects together including a large scale mural.  This is one time where I’m glad my mom is such a people person and knows how to talk to strangers so well!
